Highland Township owns and operates two sports parks and two "pocket parks", or small open spaces suitable for small gatherings… or just to rest a while! Plans are underway for a series of bike paths, beginning with a path parallel to M-59 on the north side of the road.

Hickory Ridge Pines is located off Hickory Ridge Road, approximately 2.5 miles north of M-59. This park is the home of the Huron Valley Soccer Club, and provides a venue for the annual fireworks display, sponsored by the Township and the Highland Downtown Development Authority. The park also provides a small baseball field, picnic facilities and walking trails. The park is equipped with modern bathroom facilities and a concession stand, which is operated by Huron Valley Soccer Club during regular season play and tournaments.

Duck Lake Pines is located off Duck Lake Road, approximately 0.25 miles south of M-59 (behind the Shopping Center). This park is the home of the Hi-White Youth Athletic Association, our local softball association. The park also provides a number of other recreational activities, including basketball, volleyball, tennis, in-line skating, ice skating, a children's play structure, an archery range and walking trails. The park is equipped with picnic tables, a pavilion, modern bathroom facilities and a concession stand, which is operated by Hi-White during regular season play and tournaments. To reserve a specific area in one of the parks for picnics or occasions, please fill out and return the Park use application form. The Parks and Recreation Ordinance spells out the rules for the use of the parks.

The Parks and Recreation Committee provides planning and guidance for all recreation projects undertaken by the Township. The Township Recreation priorities are documented in a Recreation Plan, approved by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The Township is undertaking an update of the Recreation Plan in the Spring of 2003. If you would like to participate, please contact the Planning and Zoning Departments.

Regular meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium. The public is welcome to attend and participate.
