From time to time, groups of property owners identify a need that benefits only a portion of the Township properties, such as a water main extension, lake level augmentation wells, road or drainage improvements. When these projects are particularly complex, it is appropriate for the Township to provide project administration, engineering design and assistance, contracting services and financing (often through bond sales). The costs are passed on to the benefiting properties through the Special Assessment District process. Annual payments are collected with the tax bill. The property owners benefit from reduced project costs and the lower interest rates that the local government can obtain.
